My Position: Undergraduate Research Assistant to Graduate Student
My Main Responsibilities: Working with and learning how to use a few different machines - VSM (Vibrating Sample Magnometer), XRD (X-Ray Diffractometer), AFM (Atomic Force Microscope), - in addition to creating thin multilayered samples for use in these machines
My Expected Outputs/Goals:
1) Poster presentation at the end of the summer
2) 1 page abstract describing what I did over the summer
3) This is more casual: get to know staff, professors, and experience Baltimore from the student perspective
How This Program Will Play in My Long-term Career Plan:
Physics is a broad undergraduate major. There are many applications to this major and so far working this summer in Materials Science I have found that I am better suited to the physical side of physics, as opposed to theory. I have always learned better with hands-on experiments, so this opportunity has proven very beneficial in keeping me interested in this field.

My Position: Marketing, Fund-raising and development
My Main Responsibilities:
Fast Track Velodrome- Helped with fund-raising, organizing, and pursuing a $6.5 million budget. Aided with pre-development in securing property site.
Pepsi refresh- in charge of significant marketing campaign to bring $250,000 to inner city cleveland to construct a park.
Slavic village bike-a-thon- helped organize an inner city bike ride.
FBI department of justice investigation-made spreadsheets of 72 property frauds to be used as evidence in trial.
My Expected Outputs/Goals:
1) In one years time, have developed and constructed the indoor cleveland velodrome and sports complex.
2) Effectively and positively marketed slavic village as a growing friendly neighborhood.
3) Raise as mush money as possible to help develop new projects within slavic village.
Charles Pearson Halsted I

My Position: Emergency Medical Scribe
My Main Responsibilities: I attend patients alongside the doctor, write patient histories, medical histories, fill out the rest of the chart, do physicals for trauma, order and receive labs, and dispo patients
My Expected Outputs/Goals: To learn all about medicine and the many cases that come through the ED everyday. Also to have lots of stories to tell people about the various degrees of health conditions I see everyday.
How This Program Will Play in My Long-term Career Plan: Spruce up my med school app, teach me what being a doctor is all about

My Position: US Open-End Mutual Fund Performance Data Analyst
My Main Responsibilities:
1) Performance data processing and quality assurance on a daily and monthly basis.
2) Communication with fund companies to acquire key performance data.
3) Conduct projects to streamline the data update process and monitor the on-going improvement projects.
My Expected Outputs/Goals:
1) Grow familiarity with US Open-End Mutual Fund industry, particularly market performance.
2) Establish professional relationship with major investment houses.
3) Develop detail-oriented working abilities in fulfilling daily assignments and obtain experiences in leading new projects that improve the financial information model.
How This Program Will Play in My Long-term Career Plan:
My long-term goal is to become an asset manager. This program places me in an institution that is known for its mutual fund rating and fund performance database. The work gives me substantial exposure to the asset management industry. There are also rotation opportunities available with the investment research and investment management divisions in the company.

My Main Responsibilities:
-Pull member data (creating program queries), create charts, and test significance levels of different hypotheses for member categorical data
-Assist an author, hired by the club, in the researching and writing of a book on Central Arkansas Swimming History
-Shadow the Owner/CEO of the club
My Expected Outputs/Goals:
1) Further develop my critical thinking with data and hypotheses and find helpful ways to improve the club’s members’ experience
2) Develop an understanding for the various aspects taken into account when making business decisions for the club
3) Get a behind the scenes look at the different jobs and responsibilities involved in managing a health/athletic club
